Friday’s Feature - The Vegetable Chopper

Lately, I've been taking at least one of the boys out to a local grocery store cooking school program. So far, we've managed to make it out to 2 of the days and have been having a tasty time! It's a fantastic idea - letting kids learn how to cook and follow instructions. They each get their own chef hat to decorate and wear, aprons too on occasion and they all look so cute!
The tool they have that amazes
me the most is this:
The Veggie Chopper.
Now, the ones they have are slightly different, with the handles on the top instead of on the side, but all in all the idea is the same. I, of course, had to have 1. Well. Ok. 2. Because I didn't want there to be fighting. Ok. Lying there. One for me - one for the kids….
There's 3 reasons that this handy-dandy tool amazes me.
#1. Kids can use it. If for nothing else, I love this tool because it's PERFECT for little hands who can't and shouldn't be using knives. It gives them the chance to have independence in the kitchen and actually participate in the prepping of recipes. Although it can cut through hard things like carrots with ease, there is no sharp blade! It's unbelievable. The kids LOVE it. I swear we are going to end up with everything cut into little cubes….
#2. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I was cutting up baby carrots for some supper the other night, using a paring knife, and the pieces were going FLYING all over the kitchen! It's like chase the chunk! It's crazy. I suddenly realized that I had my new veggie chopper (yes, more excited about GETTING the tool than implimenting it into my kitchen life!). It was like a dream. I was chopping carrots that were staying still!
#3. Can you see the blade? It's all crimpy! It makes your carrots and cucumbers and whatever else you chop WAVY! It looks all professional! I'm easily pleased - I love that feeling of "pro-chef" when I don't have to do all kinds of craziness to get it!
Now, you might be asking where to get one. No, it's not Tupperware (much to my dismay!), it's not even (gasp!) Pampered Chef. I got mine at cooking class. But after a long and extensive search online, I found this site:
If you have kids, I recommend this product. A lot of fun and makes kids safe and happy in kitchen!
