Slowcooker Applesauce
By Lisa Marie on Oct 1, 2008 in Recipes
I was sitting there, staring at the hardly-dented 20lb bag of fresh picked apples, wondering what I was going to make with them. My personal experiences with making pie have left me scarred and scared. lol. So, that wasn't an option.
I grabbed my slowcooker cookbook and flipped through the pages until I found applesauce. DING! yummy.
I'd forgotten how easy it is to make applesauce - ESPECIALLY with a slowcooker. Last time I made it, I spent hours putting apples through an electric food processor and then stirring a pot on the stove. Not this time!!
This is easy. You'll love it.
- 8 medium cooking apples (such as MacIntosh), peeled, cored and sliced
- ½ cup of water
- ½ cup of granulated sugar (amount depends on types of apples used and preferences for taste!)
Combine apples and water in 5 Qt slow cooker. Cover. Cook on low for 4½ to 5 hours or on high for 2½ (apples will be soft.)
Sprinkle sugar on top and stir.
I'm going to admit something here. I didn't follow the instructions. I added the sugar at the start and let it mix in while simmering. It tasted delicious.
VARIATION: The cookbook has another idea too. Instead of peeling your apple, leave the skin on. When the sauce is cooked, pressed through a foodmill to make it smooth.
