Pantry Zone #1 - Impromtu Entertaining

The first zone recommended in the Better Homes & Gardens kitchen organization article is called the "Impromptu Entertaining" zone.

Unless you are my mother-in-law who constantly has more guests in her home than her 8 children, their spouses and their children - you will probably find that this zone can be kept up high, since it won't need to be accessed on a regular basis.

What if you don't have a pantry (like me … for now…)? What about the cupboard over your refridgerator? You know, the one you can't open unless you climb up on top of the counter? Since you don't need to get to it as much as other zones, this might be a good option.

Use open baskets to make it easy to grab whatever you need.

The idea here is to have all the things on hand you might not normally think of for when a guest arrives, such as:

  • napkins
  • serving trays
  • paper plates
  • disposible cups
  • plastic cutlery
  • quick & easy appetizers, like party mix chips
  • a bottle of wine and/or pop

I'd go one step further - why not put in the "specialty" items you only use a few times a year, like birthday candles?

Think of your family and what you would want available to entertain an unexpected guest, then put a collection together and find the perfect spot in your kitchen.
