Tuesday’s Tip - “Get Rid Of…” Smells

I've decided that from now on Tuesdays will be Tip Day. I'll be offering a little tidbit of information that, hopefully, will help you. Some you may already know - some might be new. The first few are going to be a series. The "Get Rid Of …" series.

Today we're going to talk about getting rid of smells.

If you have a container with a nasty or stale odor, don't despair! It's not time to throw that container out!

I've read about using bleach to get rid of smells, but really - that's not MY preferred method. I'm sort of a bleachaphobe (if there were such a thing!).

Try this…

Crumble up a piece of newspaper and place inside the containers for 24 hours or longer. Because the newspaper is porous, it will absorb the smell and you can just throw it away!

 Here's a few other ideas:

  • Seal a charcol briquette in the container.
  • Use vinegar. Swirl it around the container so all the sides are covered in it, then let it sit for a bit before washing.
  • Seal an apple peel in the container, then leave it for several days before washing.

Good luck!
